Do I really need a security system?

I get it, I really do. My name is Tracy and I work for Versonel. I grew up in a small, Pleasantville-esque town. There was almost no crime, certainly no violent crime. Neighbors waved hello, doors were left unlocked, and kids played outside until after dark. Anyone who had a security system was definitely not from the town - we all knew it was a waste of money.

But times change. And to buy a nice house, I had to relocate to a much larger, neighboring town. I was in denial for quite some time that life could be anything different from the almost Stepford existence I grew up with. Sure, I locked my car and house, but I thought that was enough. My neighbors were super friendly, and I thought I was in a nice part of town and had nothing to worry about.

Then I got a wake up call. A package was stolen off my front porch. Yes, it may sound small... and honestly, it was a $15 box of baby food from Amazon because I don't always have time for shopping, so it wasn't a huge loss. But still... Someone, in broad daylight, came onto my property, up to my front door, and took something that belonged to me. 

I no longer felt safe in my own house. If someone came this far to steal a simple package, what is going to keep them from trying to get inside? I did my research: 85% of break-ins are from non-professionals that are usually more desperate and dangerous. Just like the person who stole my package.
