Once called a boilermaker, the shot with a glass of beer has a long standing tradition everywhere you can consume alcohol - from the dive bar down the street to the new, trendy hipster bar uptown.
The original goal of this drink was to combine a cheap beer and cheap whiskey to produce a faster onset of the inebriating effect of alcohol. In some cases, the side beer, or "beer back" was free with the harder liquors. Well, the beer back is back, and is becoming the hottest pairing in alcohol since dry gin and the olive. Bars around the country are creating boilermaker menus that thoughtfully pair compatible beers and liquors. Trendy neighborhoods in NYC, New Orleans and SanFran have entire bars devoted to this newfound / old-school combo with some new twists. My college days are far behind me, but not far enough that my memories have faded. One of my clearest memories is my dorm room and spending time with my roommate, who is still my best friend. I have posted before about being raised in a small town and moving a couple years ago to a much larger town, bordering on "city". Mostly life has been pleasant, and I certainly enjoy the conveniences of lots of shops and restaurants being within walking distance. A few weeks ago, we got our first snow of the year. Not much, just a couple inches. As I was going out my back door in the morning after the snow to walk down the (shoveled)path in my backyard to my carport, I noticed something odd - large footprints in the snow leading away from my backdoor. My house is always locked, as is my car. Someone had clearly walked up the shoveled path in my back yard, gone to my back door, and then proceeded to walk around the side of my house. Nothing was missing, nothing was broken, but someone was clearly on my property. However, it was morning, and in efforts to not scare my child, I ignored it and we got in my car and drove to daycare.  Fast-forward a few days later, I was speaking to my cop friend and I mentioned this to him. He told me, rather firmly, that if I ever see that again to call the police. No one should be at my back door. And, he told me that because I park outside and because we are in a densely populated area, people are most likely trying to open my car to steal stuff every night. Every. Night. I did my research on how to prevent this, and the most common advice I read on several websites was a security camera and a motion light. It doesn't work. We read the manual, but let's be honest... most manuals, at least to me, read like they are in another language. That is one of the main reasons I enjoy writing these blogs - I love figuring out how stuff works, and spreading my knowledge onto other people in a clear, easy to understand fashion. Anyway... This blog will list some common trouble spots with the Versonel NightWatcher and provide some simple solutions. Problem: Your light is not tracking correctly on your 502, 702 or 802 Solution: Turn off the main power to your NightWatcher. Rotate the head (light) 5x from left to right. Park the light in the left potion looking at the light. Power light back on. Problem: You are getting an error message like this one for your 802:  Solution: First, check your WiFi Password - Remember, it is case sensitive! Try re-entering your home WiFi password on the app.
Still not working? Check your WiFi signal strength. If your WiFi signal isn't strong enough, this error message will occur and your NightWatcher will not work. If this is the case, try using a WiFi booster, which can be found at any major electronics store. Problem: You tried the above solution, and you are still not able to connect to your app for your 802, or you are having general tracking issues with your 702 or 502. Solution: Power your light into static mode, then hold the reset button down for 15 seconds. I come from a long line of family cooks. My grandmother owed a restaurant, my mom was a cook there, and I love cooking. However, in my case, love did not translate to skill... at all. I have mastered the art of boiling over, burning, and all general cooking mishaps.
